Alongside Paul M., he is alleged to have arranged instruction courses where radical left activists trained in fighting methods and rehearsed attacks. At depots overseen by Paul M, the network allegedly accumulated tools, pepper spray, concealment items and communication devices.

Previous convictions and global responses

Another militant previously active with the group, Lina E, emerged as a cause celebre within some far-left activist circles following her conviction in 2023 for targeting presumed far-right targets.

The US designation makes group members ineligible to enter the US, freezes any assets they could possess within the American economy and makes it illegal providing material support to them.

Germany's far-right AfD party welcomed the American move and called on the German administration to take similar action. In contrast, the country's diplomatic office merely commented it had “acknowledged” of the US designation.

“The danger from the organization has substantially diminished lately. The ringleaders and particularly violent members have already been convicted or are in custody.”
