A person who laced sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the defendant then played the "treat game" in a space of five children.
