The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
